| Anybody else seen the movie "Sin City" yet? I have. It's pretty dark, but I like it. I like it because the characters draw me in. They are all a bunch of weirdos but they all fight for what they believe in. My favorite character is Marv. Marv is pretty much what most guys would like to be except pretty dang ugly. Otherwise he is tough, almost unstoppable, loyal, and compassionate when it comes to women. He takes down his adversaries with ease, he fights for his girl, says she's worth dying for. Marv has a condition, he forgets things, and people say he would someday turn into a psycho killer. He does kill a lot. Pretty much goes on a rampage to avenge the death of the best thing that ever happened to him, Goldie. Unfortunately his killing spree involves some very high up people and in the end Marv pays the ultimate price for his revenge on the electric chair. Marv wonders why somebody so pretty, so unattainable as Goldie would want to be with a lug like him, he figures out that she must have been in some trouble and that she must have been looking for the biggest badass she could find to protect her. He doesn't care that Goldie used him like this tho because he feels Goldie gave him something that he didn't even know existed or hadn't experienced and he appreciates it. The scary thing about Marv is that he really likes to make his victims pay, one of his lines is "and when his eyes go dead, the hell I'll send him to will seem like heaven after what I've done to him." This leads to some pretty gruesome scenes and I almost felt sorry for the guys even tho they were pretty crooked to begin with. That's ultimately the sad thing about "Sin City" and why it lives up to its title. Most of the plot is based around destruction. It makes for an entertaining action movie but you feel sad about the hopelessness of everyone's situation. Even the most redeeming character played by Bruce Willis loses hope in the end.
"Sin City" is just a movie. Then I realize there are people like that out there. Who really don't have hope, don't even know it exists, they are rough around the edges and act like they don't need anything, but they really do. I just encourage those of you who believe to love no matter what the cost, I know I need to work on that and even tho I don't have any enemies I can think of I know I struggle in showing God's love to people I run into in everyday circumstances, people I don't see everyday but could reach out and make a difference in their lives. But I don't. I worry too much about my own situations, my own problems, not always remembering that God has given me the strength to face them. I have all the tools to live my life the way I should but I don't always apply them to my life, but I know God has a plan for me no matter where I'm at and I know I grow and learn from my mistakes. I know that perfection is not attainable in this life and that I shouldn't strive to be perfect for the sake of perfection but rather just to be faithful to the God who has shown so much faithfulness and love and compassion to me.
| I bet ya all thought I was dead! Haha! Well I'm alive and kicking and I hope you all are ready for another update! I know that some of you are foaming at the mouth! Well I guess I'll start with Spring Break. Got back home to Omaha and once again helped my friend out with his junior highers. This time we had bible study in the mall(which I guess unbeknownest to my friend is full of millions of distractions for junior high boys). I was walking around with an older guy who was a senior in high school actually and he ran into some of his freshmen girlfriends. He introduced me and I told them I was in college and they asked me if I played any sports and i said "no, but I'm trying out for cheerleading!" I kid you not, the next thing out of one of the little girl's mouths was "Are you gay?" LOL. Wow that was funny, I had to set 'em straight that I was straight. And for anybody else who has any misconceptions about male cheerleaders: They throw cute girls up in the air and have to look up to keep their eyes on them so they know what they are doing and can catch em. That's not a thing that gay guys are dying to do, lol.
Anways, spent a few more nights in O-town and was blessed by the message about "seasons of life" in Terra Nova. Any college student who lives in Omaha or close should go there at least once. It is awesome! Then it was off to Florida for some beach and quality time with the gparents! Got down there and it was actually kind of cool! But we still managed to have some fun! The gparents spoiled us like they'd never see us again and we had tons of seafood! We also helped them with some spring cleaning and I got to put on a little concert for my gparents baptist church and display my vocal and guitar skills! They sang some nice hymns themselves and I really liked the pastor's message about holding on to hope! Then Ryan and I went to Panama City to see what the rest of the spring breakers were up to and that was a really wild time! We got some free shirts and footballs and other junk and hit Club La Vuela one night! They had some really cool bands and there were lots of gorgeous ladies there! Gorgeous on the outside that is! Then we went back to Appalachicola and just had fun chilling on the beach getting a tan and playing volleyball and football with some locals and spring breakers. I got a fake tattoo and so did Ryan! He got this sun on his back and I got the japanese character for "servant" cuz that's what I am! I also splurged and got a hawaiian shirt and straw hat which I wore on the plane ride back so I could hold on to the spring break spirit as long as possible! NE was freezing when I got back and now I have a cold! Oh well. It was worth it! My mind is still on the beach I'm afraid! Got back and had a million messages from people wishing me a happy b-day! Thanks for the love people :) I heart you all! Made a guy feel special ;)
Cheerleading practice was alright, right now I'm working on a stunt called the lib and hopefully I can get it down before tryouts. It's where you catch a girl by her two feet and then she stands on one foot as you extend her upward! It looks really cool but it's tricky getting your second hand under her foot. I'll git 'r done ;) I've decided to do the Husker Idol thing so all you NE peeps should come out and see what's up next thursday night in the Centennial Room in the student union. I'm going to put on a show :) You can laugh or applaud, just come, it's only $3! Well I have a test I have yet to study for tomorrow so I should probably do that, or at least say that I'm gonna do that! 10-4 ;)
| Well, I had a pretty fun weekend. Got my first speeding ticket ever! It was actually kind of funny. I was making fun of people(all in good humor of course) as I was passing them saying how cool I was in my benz, trying to imitate Rick James. Then this car is in the left lane and he won't get over, I'm like, "Hey just get in the right lane, you can laugh at me if I get a ticket!" Ten seconds later I was pulled over. Pretty ironic huh? Well the officer was nice and all and he didn't count the fact that i was in work zone against me and i said i appreciate it. Well I think he thought i cussed at him or something so he's like, "Excuse me?" in a stern voice. Luckily I was able to clarify what I said. So now I have to go to stop class so my insurance doesn't go up. All in all I'd say the whole ordeal was a good pride check. I'm not invincible, lol!
Better news . . . I'm famous! Channel 3 in Omaha interviewed me to see what I thought of the tattoo on my friend's forehead. We were in Hollywood video and before my other friend could get interviewed the manager kicked us out because she was uncomfortable with it. I'll have to admit it's kind of fun to see people's reactions to my friend's forehead. Then we went to hang out with some junior highers that another friend youth pastors. We had a great time playing dodgeball at Grace University! I think it would be really cool to be a youth pastor. Kids are so funny at that age. I wonder if I could do that and be a male nurse at the same time! Well I need to study, so I'll yak on this later.
| So many questions, lol! Well yes, Tara, I actually did drop a girl on her head before. We were trying a between the legs maneuver and I let my arms go too far down and her head hit kind of hard on the wood floor. She cringed, I cringed, everybody cringed. Needless to say we didn't try that one the rest of the night but luckily she is a great friend and didn't yell at me too bad, lol! So, do I have any takers for swing dancing partners? (sound of crickets) lol. Cathi, the name of this song that is playing on my site is called "naked as we came" by iron and wine. You can go to their website http://www.ironandwine.com/ to find out more about them. I hope you enjoy!
Enough about the past! Today I had my clinical orientation at St. Elizabeth's hospital. I didn't get the memo that we were supposed to wear professional attire instead of white scrubs so when I showed up in my brand new spic and span pearly whites I found out that I contrasted even more with my cute girl classmates. Not to mention most of them had the UNMC nursing emblem nicely sewn to their lab coat while mine was hanging on by a strand of duct tape. Good thing we didn't work with patients today, they probably would have thought I was posing as a student just to get access to the drug supplies! I can just see it now, "Hello my name is Eliot Schwer and I am a nursing student, mind if I take some vital si--," (patient abruptly presses call button) (I continue) . . . "but I'm already here." Patient: "I want a real nursing student you son of a pill pusher" HAHA. I don't care who you are, that's funny! Well anyways, I'm done being a comedian for tonight, I actually need to do some more studying, toodles.
| Well I guess at the urging of a friend, lol, you know who you are, I should update my xanga. Big news on friday: I took my shirt off in class, it sounds so scandalous but don't worry, lol! It was for academic purposes only! We were learning to listen to heart sounds in my Health Assessment lab and it was my turn to be the class demonstration. I put the instructor at ease and told her she had "a gentle touch" and that i trusted her, and it was pretty easy from there.
On Sunday I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Chinese New Year celebration at the student union. There was a nice dinner before hand and I only spilled food on myself once! Thank you, thank you, I'm expecting to get some props on that! It was very educational: I got to learn about Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, the chinese equvialent of Romeo and Juliet, Romance of Hongfu the singing Girl, and the Story of the White Snake Lady! At the beginnning of the performances I could swear they were doing voice overs but then I remembered they WERE speaking Chinese.
Then went out to do some country swing dancing! The good thing is I didn't drop anybody on their head this time, another prop worthy accomplishment. Afterwards we went to a Mexican food drive-thru called D'Leons. My friend Amy was cracking me up. We were taking forever to order and I think the dude just gave us the silent treatment or something, he even said hurry up! go! lol! We finally did get our food and my chimichanga was very tasty.
Don't worry, I saved the best for last, if you're still reading that is. Tonight, Eliot Schwer stepped it up when his team needed it the most! It was the first game of the Intramural broomball playoffs and we were tied with the other team 1-1 in the final period. I got in a tussle with a dude and came out with the ball and nothing but a big net and a skinny goalie in front of me. I soared down the ice and slapped a shot toward the goal. A shot so powerful that the goalie could not stop it going in between his legs into the net. WOOOO! Game-deciding goal in the playoffs baby, that's what it's all about! I'd just like to take this opportunity to give God the glory! Anyways i'm pretty tuckered out, time to get some shuteye, peace.
